How do I create a simple identifier and solve Error 1078 in my ActionScript 3 code?

In my ActionScript code, I continually get the message "Error 1078 Label must be simple identifier" Here is the part of the code that I think the problem is coming from:
remote_mc.channel3_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,
channel3): void
function channel3(event:MouseEvent):void
{
changeTheChannel(3);
}
The error message says that the problem is on the line that contains the code-
channel3): void
I have tried my best to research this, but I can't figure out what the problem could be.
